Nobody Told Me... My Battle with Postpartum Depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
A pretty house and a white picket fence, with a beautiful family is the beginning of every little girls dream. After the birth of her first child is where Wendy's story truly begins, when her life is lived beyond the norms of everyday annoyances, beyond maybe some bad parenting or a broken family. This is where she takes hold of adversity and the real Wendy comes to life. Wendy pushed through the unspoken wall of postpartum depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. Horrifying thoughts and debilitating anxiety.
This book is a memoir into a dark corner of childbirth that never seems to be told before it is entirely too late. When you are done with this story you will learn that the love for your child will give you strength beyond anything you could envision. The greatest part of all is that she is just like you and me, she is neither a superwoman nor is she made of steel. She is an ordinary woman backed into an extraordinary circumstance, and she comes out on top. She shows you that if she can do it, any one can with help and support.

Enveloped by relentless destructive images and horrifying thoughts, she shares the terror and emotional chaos as she struggled to discover what was happening to her. “Nobody told me either! I hope more and more mothers will add their voices, like Wendy, to the growing chorus of moms who say ‘nobody told me,’ until we become so loud that the world will wake up and start doing all that is necessary to educate and help new mothers.”

“I will never forget my first meeting with Wendy. She appeared in my office with her husband holding her newborn daughter, and also accompanied by her mother. She was trembling, extremely anxious and sad. She was frightened of her own thoughts and fearful that she would do something wrong and that she could cause harm to her baby. Wendy was depressed and had obsessive thinking. She could not grasp what was going on with her. Yet, she expressed an inner desire to be the mother she always wanted to be. With professional help, the support of her family and medication, she was able to slowly grow to become more receptive to treatment, which included cognitive-behavioral therapy and exposure and response prevention. Slowly Wendy began to face her fears, taking small steps, tolerating her anxiety and beginning to enjoy motherhood. And now—look at her!! A loving, caring and educated mother of two beautiful daughters who is sharing her experience to help enlighten mothers going through difficult times during and after pregnancy. I applaud Wendy for all she has accomplished. It has been my privilege to walk along beside her at one time as her therapist. Now she walks on her own with confidence and pride.

“Wendy has written a very poignant book regarding her personal battle with postpartum depression. Nobody Told Me describes Wendy’s own experience with postpartum depression in a very intimate and sensitive way. I highly recommend this compelling book to pregnant mothers and all mothers who have or may experience postpartum depression.
